Sandi Petersen

Sandi PetersonSandi Petersen, DNP, APRN, GNP-C was appointed chief nursing officer at Trinity Hospice in July 2004.  Trinity, now owned by Sunrise Senior Living, with 24 locations across nine states, is the nation’s seventh largest hospice provider.  The company offers palliative care and support services to terminally ill patients and their families, while focusing on meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. 

In her role as chief nursing officer, Petersen is focused on guiding the company’s clinical compliance, ensuring that it continually meets these requirements from both a regulatory and billing compliance standpoint.  Peterson ensures that Trinity appropriately adheres to the necessary Medicare and regulatory guidelines throughout the company’s entire multi-location network. 

Petersen brings many years of related healthcare experience to Trinity.  Before joining the company, she spent ten years with Portland-based Assisted Living Concepts, Inc. in a variety of roles, including Senior Vice president of Quality and Clinical Services, Government Relations, and Training.  In this capacity, Petersen handled compliance, education and regulatory matters for the company’s 200 facilities nationwide. 

Petersen began her career with ALC as a residence nurse and business developer for Pacesetter Home Health and Hospice, an ALC subsidiary.  In these various positions, she served as administrator for home health and assist administrator for the hospice program in addition to her assisted living duties. 

During her extensive career, Petersen also worked in similar healthcare management positions with Los Angeles-based Beverly Enterprises and Columbia Healthcare.

Petersen, a resident of Dallas, earned her bachelor’s degree in business and biology from East Texas Baptist University and also received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La.  She holds a Masters of Science in nursing from the University of Texas and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Rush University in Chicago, IL.  Petersen received her Geriatric Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, TX.

Petersen has authored numerous articles relating to assisted living, hospice, and healthcare that have appeared in key related trade journals and throughout various educational documents.  She professionally lectures throughout the country at seminars and before professional organizations.  Petersen is a member of the ALFA Nurse Action Committee.
